Yoko Revisits His Past on “Tant d’années”, a Raw Story from Sarcelles

0

Yoko belongs to a new generation of rappers who prioritize substance over spectacle. Hailing from Sarcelles, the artist has steadily built a reputation through sharp songwriting, a clear artistic vision, and an ability to turn personal experiences into compelling music. Signed to Morning Glory and distributed by Believe, he has crafted a universe where introspection, everyday observations, and street-inspired narratives naturally intersect.

His rise is closely tied to the momentum created by DJ Bellek and his label Morning Glory, which has become one of the most influential talent incubators in French rap. After helping launch the career of ZKR, the label continued its development by backing a new wave of artists, including , Décimo, Favé, and Bag Jeune B. In such a highly competitive environment, Yoko has managed to stand out through his authenticity and deeply personal approach to songwriting.

Since joining Morning Glory, Yoko has carefully built his artistic identity through a series of singles that reflect his growth and evolution. From Métal Froid to Sativa 4, including Comme d’habitude, Jamel, 95 degrés Pt. 1, By Night, Sofitel, and J’arrête pas, each release has added another layer to his musical personality. Today, the rapper unveils “Tant d’années”, a dark and melancholic record that deliberately moves away from the usual summer anthem formula. Through this new track, he reflects on his journey, his memories, and the realities of growing up in Sarcelles.

Yoko revisits his past on “Tant d’années”

To bring this new record to life, Yoko teamed up with producers Bellek, Heer Beats, and Sm!le. As the head of Morning Glory, Bellek has established himself as one of the key architects behind the development of the label’s roster. His influence on the careers of the artists he supports has been acknowledged on several occasions, notably by ZKR, who highlighted the producer’s pivotal role in his artistic transformation during an interview with Raplume.

Alongside him, Heer Beats continues to play an important role in shaping the sound of this new generation. The producer has notably worked on tracks such as “Conséquence” by , “95 degrés Pt. 2” by Yoko, and “Wiz” by Décimo.

Musically, “Tant d’années” is built around a dark, stripped-back, and intentionally minimalist instrumental. Free from unnecessary embellishments, the production gives full space to the rapper’s writing, allowing him to revisit his past with honesty and nostalgia:

“I get flashbacks from the days when I had nothing, I forgot what it felt like when I finally had a little.”

This line perfectly captures the spirit of the song. Blending memories of hardship, personal growth, and reflections on the passage of time, Yoko delivers a sincere performance carried by a controlled and emotionally resonant interpretation. The subtle use of vocoder in the hook enhances the track’s melancholic atmosphere without ever overshadowing its message.

Directed by SCT, the music video was shot in Sarcelles, far removed from the luxury-driven imagery often showcased in contemporary rap visuals. The camera follows the artist through the streets that shaped both his identity and his story. The visual adopts a realistic approach that remains faithful to the song’s message, portraying the realities of street life without romanticizing or glorifying them. It is a creative direction fully consistent with SCT‘s previous work, including the video for “Macadam” by Kulturr, Bilouki, and Landy.
