“WAWA”: Kodes and Himra Deliver a Powerful Drill Statement

0

Kodes belongs to the generation of artists who helped transform Bâtiment 7 in Évry into one of the most iconic landmarks of modern French rap. Following the golden era of the Orly – Choisy-le-Roi – Vitry-sur-Seine triangle, spearheaded by the legendary Mafia K’1 Fry, the famous housing block in the Parc aux Lièvres district became a breeding ground for a new wave of talent. Its hallways gave rise to artists such as Koba LaD, Shotas, Bolémvn, and several members of the 7 Binks collective, all of whom played a major role in reshaping French street rap.

Over the years, Kodes has established himself as one of the most authentic voices to emerge from that scene. In 2023, he released “NO CAP, Vol. 1”, an ambitious project featuring appearances from Leto, Green Montana, Kerchak, Joé Dwèt Filé, Bolémvn, and Gambino La MG. With nearly 1,842 equivalent sales in its first week, the project confirmed both the strength of his fanbase and his solid position within the French rap landscape. Now, the rapper returns with a track that reaches far beyond France’s borders by teaming up with one of the most influential figures in African rap today: Himra.

Meanwhile, Himra continues to write the story of Ivorian drill music. With his project “SORRY I’M BAD”, released in May 2026, the artist reached a new milestone by generating nearly 4,000 equivalent sales in France during its first week, a record-breaking achievement for an Ivorian artist. A true phenomenon in Ivory Coast, he continues to rack up impressive streaming numbers while establishing himself as one of the leading ambassadors of African rap on the international stage.

Kodes and Himra join forces on “WAWA”

The track is produced by AchilleG and DiamondWav, two producers who have mastered the sound of contemporary urban music. Recently, AchilleG made his mark on “Offshore” by So La Lune featuring Ninho, while DiamondWav contributed to tracks such as “Beretta” by Guy2Bezbar and “GSP” by 1Pliké140.

The result lives up to expectations. From the opening seconds, “WAWA” delivers a dark, tense, and relentlessly aggressive atmosphere. Staying true to their respective identities, Kodes and Himra thrive over a hard-hitting drill instrumental designed for maximum impact. Sharp punchlines, memorable hooks, and constant energy turn the track into a genuine display of power and chemistry between the two artists.

Among the standout lines featured on the track are:

“To drug them, I’ve got every antidote”
“This isn’t rap, this is philosophy”

The music video, filmed in Ivory Coast by M, perfectly extends the song’s atmosphere. A strong gangsta aesthetic runs throughout the visual, combining displays of power, crew gatherings, and imagery heavily inspired by the global drill movement. Surrounded by their respective teams, Kodes and Himra showcase a natural chemistry and a shared determination to represent both their roots and their journeys.

Through its raw direction and relentless intensity, the visual amplifies the impact of the track. The release marks a strong comeback for Kodes while once again demonstrating Himra‘s ability to take his sound far beyond the borders of Ivory Coast. Just days after its release, the video is already approaching one million views, highlighting the anticipation and excitement surrounding this collaboration between two major names in the French-speaking drill scene.
