Romsii Remixes “Demain t’es où ?” With Bigflo

In the early 2000s, while R&B was booming across the United States, France was still reluctant to fully embrace the genre. It would take the rise of Sexion d’Assaut and their brand of urban pop for the broader French urban music scene to become more accepting of melodic sounds, despite earlier attempts by artists such as Passi, IAM and Stomy Bugsy. For years, melody in French rap was largely dismissed as mainstream or overly commercial.

Today, even some of the hardest rappers regularly turn to sung or Auto-Tuned verses. It is against this backdrop that Romsii has emerged on the French rap scene. His distinctly hybrid sound — somewhere between pop, rap, electronic music and a range of other influences — stands apart from much of the current landscape. The alternative artist was even placed in the pop category by Printemps de Bourges.

His music, however, is clearly finding an audience. His latest project, “Demain t’es où ?”, notably features Moha MMZ, who has also undergone a lengthy artistic evolution with his concept project “La Plage”, recorded by N.KF and largely shot in Japan. The project is performing solidly on streaming platforms: “Papillon”, featuring Moha MMZ, and “Opéra” have both already surpassed one million streams.

Despite the mask and the mystery surrounding his identity, Romsii is not interested in telling thug stories through his music. Instead, he writes about everyday life, his friends, nights out and lost loves. Much like Jul, subjectivity plays a central role in his storytelling, with lyrics that are sometimes unafraid to drift into surrealism.

Romsii has now released a remix of “Demain t’es où ?” with Bigflo, another rapper who has never felt the need to portray himself as a gangster.

The track’s instrumental was composed by Marty Bogo. The producer notably worked on “Autour du feu”, which appears on the “Demain t’es où ?” project. He also produced “Sangote” for Guy2Bezbar.

The track has all the ingredients of a genuine summer single: energetic, catchy and driven by an infectious atmosphere. As usual, Romsii allows his natural spontaneity to come through in his lyrics:

“My darling baby, this one really hurt me
I know you don’t like it when I go out, when you’re driving it drives me crazy”

Between seemingly spontaneous lines about his lifestyle, Romsii once again demonstrates his ability to create distinctive moods that resonate with his audience.
