Oxmo Puccino and MC Solaar: a meeting at the top

0
For his latest album, Oxmo Puccino chose to reach for “La Hauteur de la Lune” — a title that’s both poetic and symbolic, setting the tone for a project that blends serenity and depth. On this refined and luminous tracklist, we find Vanessa Paradis making an unexpected return, MC Solaar — a true legend of French rap and the second best-selling rapper in history behind Jul — as well as Tuerie and Josman.

It’s the meeting of two masters of the pen who, ever since “Bouge de là” and the dark verses of “Pucc Fiction”, have each shaped the French language in their own way. As surprising as it may seem, Oxmo Puccino and MC Solaar had never joined forces until now.
Back in their early days, collaborations were rare — unlike today, when posse cuts keep multiplying, uniting the voices of French rap in ever more creative ways.

The visual for “Ne pas s’aimer”, taken from “La Hauteur de la Lune”, has just been unveiled. It brings together these two monuments of French music in a setting that’s both minimal and ethereal.

As with most tracks on the album, the instrumental production is handled by Pandrezz, P.Prod, and Epektase. Pandrezz and Epektase had already teamed up on “Bécane” by Yamé — a track praised for its sonic finesse — while P.Prod previously made his mark with “Blue Magic” by Niska. Together, they deliver a production that sits at the crossroads of jazz and rap: elegant, rhythmic, and perfectly tailored for the lyrical dialogue between these two legends.

MC Solaar and Oxmo Puccino share that same eloquence of language.Though they come from different artistic worlds, both have transcended the limits of pure rap to explore new musical territories — without ever losing the poetic strength of their words.

Oxmo Puccino opens the piece with an inspired reinterpretation of “Hell Is Other People”:

“Hell is not being loved, at best, it’s indifference
How can you send gentleness into belligerence?”

Solaar, in turn, unfolds his lyrical mastery with the same grace he’s known for:

“Blaming Egypt for the pyramids of Giza,
Is to forget the essence — you just can’t not love us.”

In the music video, Solaar and Oxmo float above Paris, just a few inches off the ground. They move slowly through the city’s boulevards, as if gliding through their own poetic universe. Directed by Augure, the visual embraces a dreamlike and contemplative aesthetic, perfectly in tune with Oxmo Puccino’s artistic world. The director had previously crafted the stunning visuals for “Léger” and “Magique”.
