Sena Unveils “Survivant,” an Independent Rapper’s Manifesto

With “Survivant,” a new visual from Citadelle, Sena is not simply saying that he made it through. The Les Lilas rapper delivers something closer to a statement of intent about life as an independent artist: moving forward without shortcuts, accepting sacrifice, absorbing setbacks and continuing to build regardless. Produced by Freaky Joe Beats and shot in Japan by MoonFull Corp, the track turns that fighter’s journey into an anthem to perseverance — but also to humility.

The word itself is simple: “Survivant”.

But within the career of Sena, it carries a much broader meaning. Since his earliest projects, the rapper from Les Lilas, in Seine-Saint-Denis, has been moving independently, patiently building a world in which music, visuals and storytelling work together.

With Citadelle, the 18-track album released in September 2025, that approach took the shape of an inner fortress: a project centered on protection, distance, doubt and the need to keep moving forward. “Survivant” now feels almost like the project’s manifesto.

This is where “Survivant” moves beyond a simple autobiographical track. It feels like a statement of intent about the reality of being an independent rapper, far removed from the fantasy of a career defined only by success, numbers and visibility.

The kind of survival Sena describes is less about defeating everyone else than about simply being still here.

And much of the song’s power lies in that distinction: fighting without pretending to be invincible.

Freaky Joe Beats, a collaboration built over time

Behind “Survivant” is Freaky Joe Beats, whose artistic relationship with Sena goes back several years.

UrbanTrackz has documented their collaborations since 2022. Freaky Joe Beats notably produced “Pulp Fiction” and “Tchernobyl”, before reconnecting with Sena on “La Douille de l’été” alongside Juan X, and later on “Extralucide”, another track from Citadelle.

But the producer’s catalogue stretches much further. His UrbanTrackz profile includes credits connected to Kery James, SCH, Dinos, SDM, Kekra, Lost, Yoko, NLD and Ashéo. He is notably associated with “Marginaux” by Dinos and SCH, “92i” by SDM and “La France” by Kery James and Wally B. Seck.

That ability to move between established artists and more independent projects gives his work with Sena another dimension. Freaky Joe Beats does not impose a production designed to overpower the song here: the instrumental serves the narrative, supporting the sense of progression, endurance and perspective running through “Survivant.”

On a track that embraces humility as much as struggle, that restraint matters.

From the 93 to Japan: MoonFull Corp turns travel into a visual language

Visually, Sena also continues an increasingly established collaboration with MoonFull Corp.

And once again, Japan is more than just a backdrop.

The images for “Survivant” give the track a spectacular sense of scale: landscapes, architecture, city lights and contemplative shots place the individual against a much larger environment. It is a particularly fitting way to extend the song’s central idea: keep moving forward while remaining aware of your own place in the world.

MoonFull Corp already knows Sena’s universe inside out. UrbanTrackz traces a collaboration that has taken them through extraordinary settings, from the Chernobyl exclusion zone to Japan, as well as videos including “Assassin’d King,” “KRVK3N” and, more recently, “Extralucide.”

On the latter, MoonFull Corp was already handling several essential aspects of the visual production: directing, cinematography and color grading. That same continuity can be found again on “Survivant.”

This way of working helps explain the visual coherence surrounding Sena’s output. The direction does not merely illustrate the lyrics: it becomes an extension of their meaning.

Japan as a mirror of Citadelle

This is not the first time Citadelle has travelled to Japan.

A few months earlier, Sena had already shot the video for “Extralucide” there, once again alongside MoonFull Corp and Freaky Joe Beats.

The country is gradually becoming one of the project’s recurring visual territories. But while “Extralucide” leaned more heavily into contemplation and inner searching, “Survivant” seems to look directly at the road already travelled.

The almost overwhelming beauty of the images creates an interesting contrast with the song’s message. Sena never turns his path into a triumphalist story. If anything, the visuals seem to remind us that continuing to move forward does not necessarily mean that you have won.

Sometimes surviving simply means that you did not give up.

An anthem to struggle — but above all, to humility

That is probably what separates “Survivant” from a conventional song about overcoming adversity.

Sena talks about struggle without turning the fighter into a superhero.

Instead, he reminds us that behind every release are years of work, projects that take time, sacrifices that remain invisible and the constant need to believe in your own world strongly enough to keep defending it.

It is a vision fully consistent with the trajectory documented on Sena’s UrbanTrackz profile: an independent artist who prefers to build a long-term narrative rather than stack disconnected releases.

One year after the release of Citadelle, Sena is still giving the album new images and gradually revealing new layers of the project.

With “Survivant,” he is ultimately not trying to explain that he has reached the top.

He is simply explaining why, after all these years, he is still climbing.
