The prequel? Every successful series has one. After unveiling the first two parts of “JVLIVS”, SCH introduces his prequel “Giulio”. The rapper from Marseille is one of the pioneers of the album-films or concept albums movement in French rap.

Today, many artists accompany the release of their projects with a short film or sometimes present their project as a short film. French rap, always influenced by the art of storytelling, naturally evolved in this direction, along with the growing importance of visuals in music.

The artist of German descent has unveiled the visual for “Les Hommes Aux Yeux Noirs”, a new excerpt from “Giulio”.

SCH prefers “Les Hommes Aux Yeux Noirs”!

The instrumental composition of this track was produced by Geo On The Tracks. The beatmaker from Strasbourg is also a regular collaborator with SCH. He composed “Interlude” on “Rooftop”, and “Jimmy Twice” on “Giulio”. The production is hybrid. In the verses, SCH raps over an almost classical composition, while the sung chorus is much more contemporary.

But how did the idea of “concept albums” come to SCH? Probably since his beginnings with the mixtape “A7”, where the early signs of this idea were visible, as the rapper paid special attention to his visuals. The art of storytelling, already present with Oxmo Puccino in “Pucc Fiction” or with NTM in “La fièvre”, likely played a role. American pioneers like GhostFace Killah or West Coast films may have also been influential.

During the release of “JVLIVS”, the first of its name, the artist explained to Abcdr du son the genesis of the project with Guilty from Katrina Squad. The star beatmaker told him: “You know, Julien, what people love about you is the cinematic side, the images you bring, and how you manage to translate them into music. I think you should play that card to the fullest on your record and go for a very cinematic approach, almost like a movie soundtrack.”

SCH with a cinematic rendering as usual!

As in some of his tracks, the rapper pays tribute to his father, to whom he dedicated an entire track in the first volume of “JVLIVS” with “Otto”:

“I often think about my father, I hope God helps him a bit
I’ve been going hard for ten years, I should slow down a bit”

The result is masterful and cinematic. SCH is almost choreographic in this visual (without dancing). The visual was directed by Theo Asciak. The director has already collaborated with Prinzly and Hamza on the beatmaker’s first clip with “Zoum”. He has also worked extensively with Hamza solo. He notably directed the majestic “Introduction”, from the rapper’s latest album.
