Pit Baccardi & Jey Brownie – “Me & My Girlfriend”

0
It’s a major comeback for Pit Baccardi in 2025. A historic figure of the legendary Secteur Ä, the artist has already left an indelible mark on French rap. The man who owes everything to “La Rue” (the streets), who’s already seen it all, and who—much like Tupac—chose to honor his mother on “Si loin de toi”, now celebrates the 25th anniversary of his self-titled debut album “Pit Baccardi” with a special concert at the iconic Olympia. Over time, Dosseh’s big brother has rediscovered the thrill of performing, enriching his comeback with carefully crafted new material.

Recently, Pit Baccardi unveiled a collaboration with Jey Brownie, an artist known for his versatility. Initially rooted in a 93 BPM sound, Jey Brownie quickly set himself apart through bold visuals and forward-thinking tracks, earning him a unique place in the Francophone rap scene. Together, they deliver “Me & My Girlfriend”, a reinterpretation of Tupac’s classic from his posthumous album “Makaveli”—where the rapper famously compares his relationship to his firearm. The phrase, made iconic by Tupac, was later reimagined by Jay-Z in “Bonnie & Clyde” as a tribute to Beyoncé. Here, Pit Baccardi and Jey Brownie deliver a smoother, more introspective take on the concept, blending timeless inspiration with a contemporary edge.

The instrumental is produced by PSK, a seasoned beatmaker known for crafting “Blue Story” by Ninho, “Nephilim” by Zed, and “Cramer” by Jok’Air. Driven by a subtle afrobeat-inspired melody, the production stays true to its rap DNA. Pit Baccardi nods to the original Tupac track with the line “Comme 2Pac, c’est Me & My Girlfriend” and pays homage to 113 and their cult project with the bar “Africaine ma pègre, prince de la ville comme 113.”

Pit Baccardi lays down his mindset with precision:

“You and me, we’ll break every rule,
I stole your heart, pulled off the heist of the century.
Glass of Petrus, I down it straight.”

The video, directed by Hypnoz, continues the cinematic aesthetic of Pit’s artistic revival. A long-time collaborator, Hypnoz weaves together a series of shots set in luxurious yet enigmatic spaces, enhanced by a deliberately hazy, filmic atmosphere. He previously directed “Ambition” and “Feu” for Pit Baccardi, as well as “Pourquoi tu m’aimes ?” for Niro and Potter Payper.
