Major Lazer is celebrating the 15th anniversary of their hit debut album “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” with a special edition release. On Friday, November 15, Diplo’s group re-released the album on streaming platforms as “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do, 15th Anniversary Edition” with enhanced audio quality, specifically optimized for Apple Music users.
The decision to commemorate the album’s anniversary is no coincidence, considering Major Lazer’s global fame today with tracks like “Lean On” with DJ Snake and MØ, which boasts over 3.6 billion views on YouTube, and “Cold Water” featuring Justin Bieber and MØ, with over a billion views. However, it all began with the original “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” and its memorable single “Pon de Floor,” featuring Vybz Kartel who returns for one of the three new tracks included in the anniversary edition.
The distinctive visual aesthetics of both the original “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” and its deluxe 15-year version, featuring Major Lazer’s avatar, were designed by Ferry Gouw. They draw inspiration from comic books and the album covers of Jamaican artist Wilfred Limonious.
Additionally, to mark the 15th anniversary, a vinyl version of “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” without the new tracks has also been released.
