L’Algérino may be relatively young, but he’s firmly rooted in the golden era of French rap. He was discovered in the early 2000s by Akhenaton, a founding member of the iconic group IAM, who signed him in 2005 to his independent label, 361 Records. That same year, he released his debut project: Les derniers seront les premiers.
Since then, L’Algérino has carved his own path. Rather than chasing album after album, he now focuses on dropping impactful singles. His most recent full-length project, Moonlight, dates back to 2021. He also left his mark on the massive posse cut Sous le soleil, featured on the compilation 13 Organisé 2.
Back when L’Algérino first got started, record labels still held the reins. Getting signed was a must to break into the scene. Artists who dared to step outside the boundaries of “pure rap” were often sidelined or criticized. He experienced that firsthand. But times have changed. The rise of digital platforms and a shift in mindset have opened the door to more creative freedom and genre-blending.
Case in point: a sun-drenched new single shot in Oran, featuring Josas. The track is currently ranked #5 on YouTube’s trending page, already racking up over 1.5 million views.
L’Algérino and Josas shine “Au Soleil”!
Tailor-made for the summer, the track blends warm guitar licks with a danceable rhythm. The two artists deliver melodic vocals in perfect sync, recorded in the heart of Oran. The video opens with a sweeping shot of Notre-Dame de Santa Cruz, a historic landmark overlooking the city.
The vibe is festive, driven by catchy hooks and playful punchlines crafted for summertime parties. Everything about it screams future summer anthem.
Directed by Wassilô, the music video weaves between urban backdrops and joyous crowd scenes. L’Algérino brings his signature energy, with Josas matching him stride for stride. Wassilô, who previously directed the visually striking Tiki Taka clip for Soolking and SCH in Algeria, delivers once again with a vibrant, feel-good visual experience.
