He is one of French rap’s hottest names right now. Hailing from Fontenay-sous-Bois, in the Val-de-Marne (94), the rapper has steadily climbed through the ranks without ever compromising his identity or rushing the process. In 2021, he released ERRR, which moved close to 4,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Hardly an extraordinary figure, but still a threshold many emerging rappers would love to reach.

Then came the explosion. His 2023 project 24 moved close to 18,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week. In 2024, BIGLAF generated 1.46 million streams within 24 hours. Later that year, he kept the momentum going with EMPTY THE BIN, released in December 2024. In 2026, he is set to release FINIS-LES, a record he has already described as his first true album.

So what sets La Fève apart from the average newcomer? For a start, much like PNL and their Deux Frères era, La Fève is rarely seen giving interviews. During his musical game of hide-and-seek between 2024 and 2026, the artist granted just a handful of carefully selected interviews, including conversations with the stylish VIEWS and Antidote magazines. He certainly hasn’t been doing the usual radio rounds.

Yet while the rapper carefully chooses his public appearances, that does not mean he has been taking a break from music. Marseille rapper S-Téban has said that “he’s always in the studio.” Some of La Fève’s previous projects were already finished six months before they were eventually unveiled to the public.

The artist has also developed an aesthetic entirely of his own, with a distinctive taste for imagery, styling and fashion. In that respect, there are parallels with SCH, although the Marseille rapper has built a much darker visual universe, dominated by shades of red and black — the colors traditionally associated with “anarchy.”

Musically, La Fève has an equally distinctive signature. Speaking to Les Inrockuptibles back in 2021, he explained:

“I used to think that, because it was true. My music wasn’t necessarily that accessible before Kolaf. Before that, I was just rapping, rapping, and it’s only recently that I started singing and making melodies with Auto-Tune. I think melody allows me to reach more people. I deliberately try not to make music that’s too underground — I can make that kind of music, but I’ll leave it on SoundCloud. I’d rather try to make people embrace my vision while using codes they’re familiar with. I like open music, so making things more accessible isn’t a problem for me. Honestly, that’s the best way to change things.”

The artist has now made his major return on COLORS with Rien d’exceptionnel (Nothing Exceptional), a restrained track running at under 80 BPM — a deceptively quiet introduction before the arrival of FINIS-LES.

The track’s production comes courtesy of Lyele, a producer who has accompanied La Fève throughout much of his career. His credits include ZAZA, FINIS LES, RIR DOLPH and 24.

The producer has also worked with other artists, including Dinos on D-Block Afrique, featuring Jolagreen23 and La Mano 1.9. The track appeared on the tracklist of Kintsugi.

Confident and determined, La Fève steps into COLORS over a soft yet fragmented and unconventional production, far removed from polished melodic pop and even further from straightforward rap technicality. Lyrically, he explores one of music’s oldest stories: the complicated relationship between a man and a woman. “Nothing exceptional,” perhaps, but through La Fève’s writing, the familiar scenario feels considerably less ordinary:

“She’s acting up, she’s crazy (acting up, she’s crazy)
I’m gonna keep it professional
She wants a passionate relationship (bwah, bwah)
Yeah, nothing exceptional”

After Les Inrockuptibles, VIEWS and Antidote, La Fève is now back in the spotlight with COLORS. Perhaps it is his way of marking a new chapter — visually refined, carefully curated and, let’s say it, decidedly fancy.
