In 2022, Kalash unveiled his project “Tombolo”, followed by a deluxe edition featuring high-profile collaborations with Ninho, Damso, Gold Up, Jkevlar, Gazo, Prince Swanny, Ngofo Family, Bounty Killer, Maureen, Hamza, Fanny J, Skillibeng, Wejdene, and Rvssian.
Marking his grand return, the artist releases the single “Numéro 19”, extracted from the official soundtrack of “Mercato”, a film directed by Tristan Séguéla, son of renowned publicist Jacques Séguéla, who famously stated:
“Si à 50 ans on n’a pas une Rolex, on a quand même raté sa vie.”
Director Tristan Séguéla gained recognition in 2023 with his mini-series “Tapie”. His film “Mercato” delves into the ruthless world of football transfers, spanning from scouting fields in the suburbs to the opulent royal palaces of Saudi Arabia. The story revolves around Driss, who has just seven days to salvage his career.
For this project, Tristan Séguéla assembled a stellar cast, featuring Monia Chokri, Hakim Jemili, Vincent Rottiers, Stéphane Bak, Birane Ba, and Marie Papillon. The film is set to hit theaters on February 19, with Kalash‘s single adding to its promotional momentum.
Kalash unveils the first track from the “Mercato” soundtrack!
The track’s instrumental production is crafted by Shaz and Alex Grox, two prominent beatmakers known for shaping the French music scene with projects like “808 Club”, “GSW2015”, and “Trappist”. Their production blends a hypnotic looping piano melody with a crisp, minimalistic beat.
In this track, Kalash, who seamlessly navigates between dancehall and rap, fully embraces a raw 100% rap style. His lyrics echo the themes of the film:
“La loyauté est une ancêtre, c’est bien vu d’être malhonnête.”
“Comme la chaîne des MCs, chez toi tout est faux.”
The visuals, composed of scenes from “Mercato”, also include sequences where Kalash plays at a casino alongside an actor from the series, reinforcing the connection between the film and its musical theme.
