Jul truly has “2 steps ahead”!

When you take a closer look, the titles of Jul‘s albums tell a true “storytelling” journey. The best-selling artist in the history of French rap launched his career with “Dans ma Paranoïa”. At that time, as he was setting off a musical wave that would spread far beyond France — all the way to “Sweden”, as he proudly says in “Clique”Jul remained elusive, rarely giving interviews.

At Musicast, during a listening session for his second album “Je trouve pas le sommeil”, the label’s project manager made it clear: Jul wasn’t too keen on doing press.

Ten albums later, the Marseille-born phoenix silences his critics with sharp freestyles and a cascade of gold and platinum certifications. Once facing tensions with his former label Liga One Industry, he’s now one of the most influential rap entrepreneurs in France. With D&P, he’s crafted a new Marseille sound — one that’s now recognized far beyond French borders.

His collective projects have only cemented this legacy. As a spiritual successor to legendary compilations like “Hostile”, “Première Classe”, and even the iconic soundtrack to “Taxi 1”, Jul has spearheaded cross-generational reunions, much like “13 Organisé”. For the first time in decades, he’s brought together Marseille rap legends like IAM with current heavyweights like Kofs and SCH. The result? The all-star album “D&P à vie”, introduced by the powerful lead single “2 Coups d’avance”.

The track’s production is handled by a seasoned trio: Samzer, Provokind, and Arian. Samzer often works with Jul’s protégés — including Gips, widely considered a spiritual heir to the Marseille sound. He produced tracks like “Un Siphon” and “Samedi Soir”. More recently, he crafted “Cartel de Ali” for rising rapper TK. Provokind also contributed to TK’s discography, producing the track “Koala”. Together, they deliver a beat that fits perfectly into the canon of “Jul-style tracks” — instantly recognizable and unapologetically his.

Here, Jul dives headfirst into a bold “egotrip” moment:

“Là, c’est JuL, c’est pas une IA, t’y as fait le game, je l’agresse
Il reste peu de gens fiables, ne donne jamais ton adresse
J’ai des tas de problèmes, mais ça va, j’m’en sors, postiché quand j’promène
M’en fous, moi, j’sors le Prada quand je sors avec madame”

The music video, directed by Gaël Movie, features Jul performing a choreographed routine in a sports arena — a setting that mirrors his raw energy. Gaël is no stranger to the rap scene, having directed the music video for “Fake & Cam” by Kerchak, as well as “La Lettre”, performed by Demi Portion and Furax Barbarossa.
