On December 5th, Jul will unveil his new project TP sur TP. Another album from Jul? Yes — and that’s exactly what makes it remarkable. Once heavily criticized by the old guard of Marseille, Jul has since won everyone over through his impressive consistency and unwavering success. With his collective albums, he managed to bring together several generations of Marseille rappers before uniting artists from Marseille and Paris. As the creator of a sound now exported across Europe, he continues releasing projects at a pace unmatched in the rap game, without ever diluting his impact. His longevity is also tied to his ability to remain simple, authentic, and genuinely close to his audience.
Jul still visits his neighborhood from time to time, never showing off his wealth or success. That humility is likely what creates such a strong emotional connection with his fans. In his latest video, the rapper toured the outskirts of Paris and has just released a new single from TP sur TP, staying true to the bright, effective style that defines him.
Jul thinks Tu Tenenew!
The track’s producer is not credited on Rap Genius, nor on streaming platforms, nor in the YouTube credits — suggesting that Jul might be behind the production himself. Journalists who accompanied him in the studio say he can compose a track in about ten minutes. The production, very much in line with his musical identity, recalls his early years up to the diamond-certified My World.
In the song, the rapper opens up about his mindset and his stripped-down daily life:
Je prie à chaque fois que je pense / Le bon Dieu m’a tout donné / Y a pas de coïncidence
Moi je renie pas / Je vis dans l’anonymat / On regarde les étoiles sur la plage avec ma bonita
As with his previous video, the visuals are directed by Kespey. The filmmaker follows Jul in his studio, in the air during his flights, and inside his limousine. The clip also features a few product placements, including Subway, Orangina, and others. Familiar with the rapper’s universe, Kespey previously directed Nostalgique and has also worked with Landy on Beaux Quartiers as well as with Iliana on Laisse tomber.
