Cypress Hill sing the “F*.* Da Police” of N.W.A! It’s a small event. “Straight Outta Compton,” N.W.A. pioneered gangsta rap, popularizing rappers who have become living legends in the Hip-Hop movement, such as Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. The founders of West Coast rap were the subject of a biopic aired a few years ago, and their project has been reissued.
The title “F*.* Da Police” is significant as it firmly places gangsta rap within a realm of protest. Cypress Hill, a group equally legendary as N.W.A., decided to cover this classic in the Spanish language. Trueno, who brought the group together for this version, stated to Rolling Stone Magazine: “Of course, it has a lot of history with N.W.A. and ‘Fuck tha Police’… The flow of the song, for me, it felt very much Cypress Hill, and it was important for me to raise a fist and bring this message to the Latin side as well, the reality that we go through.”
Let’s recall that the Spanish group had already covered their classic “Insane in the Brain” in Spanish with “Loco en el coco.”
