The Collectif 135 strikes again with “MDMA”!

v the barriers between rap and electronic music. The “cosa nostra” of Collectif 135 is precisely this bold fusion. Today, these two once-separate worlds are converging more than ever. Back in his time, hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa, with “Planet Rock”, paved the way by exploring electronic sounds in his compositions.

In France, Akhénaton also attempted to bridge these two genres with his project “Electro Cypher”. In “C’est ça mon frère”, he sarcastically reflects on the criticism he received: “Anyway, his projects are trash. Electro Cypher? / That techno garbage, fed by IAM? Never in my life.” This daring project was not met with unanimous acclaim upon its release. Additionally, we remember “Graduation” and the iconic track “Stronger” by Kanye West, directly inspired by Daft Punk. More recently, Booba, an undeniable figure in French rap, sparked curiosity by launching a house music label, SubLife. Despite its innovation, this artistic choice earned him criticism from some of his most loyal fans.

The Collectif 135 is therefore tackling a significant challenge: reconciling two underground cultures often perceived as opposites. The collective has already made an impression with tracks such as “Boiler Room”, “135 Zone”, and more recently “MDMA”, whose music video has just been released.

The Collectif 135 strikes again with “MDMA”!

The production of this track, characterized by a fast BPM, showcases the collective’s expertise. Drawing from club culture, they deliver a true house/techno fusion enriched with rap elements, without making it the central focus. This approach contrasts with other pioneers like the Beastie Boys, where, in tracks such as “Intergalactic”, the electronic sound supported the rap. It’s no surprise that the video was shot in a nightlife setting, capturing the raw energy of the scene.

With Dry Music, Collectif 135 embarks on a hybrid journey, positioned at the crossroads of electronic and rap cultures, blending sedentary music with club-ready sounds. This bold artistic gamble defies conventions, offering a track that avoids standard formats and appeals to an audience eager for novelty.

The psychedelic visuals for “MDMA”, created by NinoRec and 46Karl, two members of the collective, amplify the project’s unique identity. Combining raw footage captured during parties in a Dogme-style aesthetic with vibrant multicolored typography, this video pays a vibrant tribute to “MDMA”, subtly echoing the legacy of the Beatles with their iconic “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”.
