Rohff is gearing up for the “Demontada”!

0

Major figures of 2000s French rap, Rohff, Booba, and La Fouine continue to shape the current landscape, refusing to fade into the past. While Fouiny reignites his momentum with the third installment of “Capitale du crime Radio”, Booba is fine-tuning his upcoming project “Blanco Nemesis”. In this context, Rohff returns with “Demontada”, an anthem crafted for Paris Saint-Germain, directly inspired by the infamous “remontada” suffered by PSG against FC Barcelona in the Champions League, back when Luis Enrique was still managing the Catalan side.

This nod to the Parisian club follows a long-standing connection. As early as 2008, Rohff made an impact with “Paris”, taken from “Le Code de l’horreur”, driven by a now-iconic line: “On supportera le PSG même relégué”. Two decades later, the narrative has shifted: PSG, now firmly established at the top of French football, is chasing another Champions League title.

In 2024, Rohff opened a new chapter with “Fitna”. Without any official sales figures being released, the project still delivered solid performances for an artist with over 25 years in the game, with an estimated 30,000 units sold. The album closes with the title track “Fitna”, a dense and unapologetically “engaged” record, echoing the spirit of his classic “Regretté”. He also appears on “Mon école 2” by Kofs, a tribute project honoring the artists who shaped the Marseille rapper’s early influences.

With the visual for “Demontada”, Rohff further strengthens his connection with Paris Saint-Germain, continuing a tradition where rap intersects with football culture. Notably, his longtime rival Booba had previously taken a similar approach by dedicating a track to the Parisian club.

The track’s production was handled in-house and is credited to Legend Alive, the label under which Rohff released projects such as “Surnaturel”, “Grand Monsieur”, and “Fitna”. In that same vein, “Pop Corn” already reflected this artistic direction. The instrumental, both dense and hard-hitting, taps into the sonic territory where the rapper from Vitry-sur-Seine thrives, providing the perfect backdrop for a barrage of punchlines and raw ego-driven energy:

“Très peu d’amis, beaucoup de frères ennemis, on s’entend plus comme rap et RnB
J’ai fait mon trou, j’urine, j’ai fait un puits, pour ceux qui bougent pas, pour ceux qui ont fui”

Nicknamed the “nightmare of French rap”, Rohff has never hidden his distance from R&B. He was already making it clear in “On fait les choses” in the late ‘90s: “La vague R’n’B, je la ferais mieux chanter dans sa chambre”.

“On se souvient que des vainqueurs, on retiendra les vainqueurs, ça respecte
Ça signe que des bandeurs, j’attends pas qu’on me donne l’heure d’une fausse Patek”

Directed by Rohff himself alongside NoColor, the music video extends this raw and unifying aesthetic. Shot in Sarcelles, on the historic grounds of Secteur Ä, it captures a fiery atmosphere reminiscent of a football supporters’ stand. NoColor had already directed “Pop Corn”, as well as “Tsunami” by Favé and Timar, and “Zombie m’appelle” by Leto and La Mano 1.9.
