Kodes returns with “2Trous”: A Statement of Strength

Kodes, a prominent figure in the 7Binks collective, continues to leave his mark on French rap. Since the golden era of 113 and Mafia K’1 Fry, rooted in the “golden triangle” of Orly-Choisy-Vitry, no other generation has captivated the rap scene in quite the same way. Building 7 of the Parc aux Lièvres, now demolished, became the birthplace of numerous talents, including key figures like Koba LaD. Today, Kodes reconnects with his audience by releasing the powerful “2Trous”, a track that stays true to his street roots. Raw and intense, this song embodies the very essence of street rap.

Kodes returns with “2Trous”: A Statement of Strength

Backed by a dark and impactful production, “2Trous” fits seamlessly into the drill genre. The instrumental, crafted by the talented Wavemakers and La Source, showcases their recognized expertise. Wavemakers, recently collaborating with Tiakola on “Interlude” and with Niro on “Jamais de nous”, once again demonstrates their prowess. The trio also worked with Maes on the intense “Hypocrite”. With “2Trous”, the production creates a heavy, rhythmic atmosphere, serving as the perfect backdrop for Kodes‘ raw energy.

The lyrics delve into the harsh realities of street life, blending personal pain with resilience:
“J’ai perdu des gens qu’j’aimais trop ça fait mal / J’leur ai promis d’revenir avec des liasses de mille / Tant qu’y a pas les keufs personne se fait la malle.”
and:
“Quand j’ai pas smoke j’suis pas d’humeur (Okayyy) / Bombe nucléaire comme Vladimir.”
With biting tones and vivid imagery, Kodes once again proves his mastery of the genre’s codes.

The music video, shot in iconic urban locations, aligns perfectly with drill aesthetics. Directed by Pouchkavisual, a name well-known among genre enthusiasts, it amplifies the dark and captivating universe of Kodes. Pouchkavisual has previously stood out with collaborations alongside Gambino la MG on “Mamy” and “Tana”, as well as Seka on “Job”. His artistic direction gives “2Trous” a visual authenticity that heightens the track’s impact.
