IDY releases Wandedu, blending Afro-Caribbean vibes and introspection

With the release of his official debut single Wandedu, IDY emerges as one of the most promising voices on the Afro-Caribbean urban music scene. Born Mayelle BA in Dakar, Senegal, in 1996, this Franco-Senegalese artist carries an identity shaped by diverse influences and travel experiences. At eight years old, he left his native Senegal to settle in Guadeloupe. It was on the island of Marie-Galante, amidst local festivities and tropical surroundings, that music became his sanctuary and primary form of expression.

His musical universe naturally draws from African and Caribbean roots, skillfully combining afrobeat with Caribbean rhythms. IDY doesn’t just sing; he narrates heartfelt stories, weaving experiences between Dakar and Pointe-à-Pitre, recalling warm family moments and voicing powerful messages against racism and intolerance.

In 2018, his encounter with the Franco-Malian singer-songwriter Clayton Hamilton significantly advanced his career. Riding this wave of success, IDY signed with the label Chabine Prod in 2025 and introduced Wandedu, a track named after the Yoruba phrase meaning to ward off spirits.

Through this song, IDY embarks on an introspective journey, seeking inner purification and balance to move forward. The music video, directed by Jima Kanor in Guadeloupe, portrays an authentic, emotionally connected, and sincere artist.

IDY now dreams of sharing the stage with iconic artists such as Youssou N’Dour, Wizkid, and La Fouine, admired for their international appeal and profound emotional resonance.

With Wandedu, IDY embodies a new generation of Afro-Caribbean artists: proud, innovative, and future-oriented. An essential voice worth discovering.
