HMZ strikes back with “Coluche”

HMZ is a rapper hailing from Saint-Ouen, in the 93 district of France. A few months back, he made a notable entrance on the French rap scene with his debut album “Dans la tempête”, featuring collaborations with heavyweights like SDM and ElGrandeToto. Signed to Believe, HMZ is steadily building his momentum. He now returns with a new single, “Coluche” — a more stripped-down, introspective track that shines a light on his influences and social reflections.

HMZ strikes back with “Coluche”

The production is handled by Voluptyk, a talented beatmaker signed to Affranchis Music. Known for high-profile collabs with
Soolking and Ninho on “C’est fort”, Morad, Ninho and Gaulois on “Vida”, or Bojack and Fianso on “Système”, Voluptyk delivers here a minimalistic yet emotional backdrop, giving HMZ the space to truly express himself.

In “Coluche”, the rapper takes a step back and delivers with clarity and depth. Seated metaphorically on his throne, he reflects on his role models, cultural heritage, and current events. Among the references: former AC Milan football legend Clarence Seedorf, and notorious French outlaw Jacques Mesrine.

Some sharp-edged bars highlight his keen social awareness:

“Their smile is fake, they can’t stand seeing an Arab dancing.”

The video, directed by Digital NAK, blends intimate shots of the rapper with urban life footage and socio-political visuals. It’s a powerful artistic choice, grounding HMZ in a raw realism — one that connects personal struggle to broader realities. Digital NAK has become a staple of the French rap visual scene, also responsible for standout clips like
“Wagyu du Jap’” by Guy2bezbar, “Banger” by Rsko, and “200m” by RK.
