Gims is in Contact!

Following the Sexion d’Assaut era, Gims launched a blazing solo career with the album Subliminal, which quickly earned diamond certification. It marked the beginning of a meteoric rise. From then on, he multiplied collaborations with global icons like Sting and Sia, and returned to his rap roots with the 100% hip-hop project Le Fléau—a nod to his early freestyle days with Daymolition. Each release was met with resounding success.

But no portrait of Gims would be complete without mentioning his long-standing rivalry with Booba, a clash of two opposing rap philosophies and two starkly different personalities.

And yet, against all odds, Gims was awarded Male Artist of the Year at the prestigious Victoires de la Musique. A symbolic milestone, especially for a ceremony that once deliberately sidelined French rap. We still remember when 113 pulled off a symbolic win, and how SCH’s powerful speech marked a turning point. Since then, the Victoires have embraced their hip-hop “coming out,” finally honoring urban artists for their artistry rather than just their category.

Outside the venue, Gims didn’t hold back:
“I’ve known great success, but also low points. We weren’t always this strong.”

In December 2024, he unveiled the third installment of Le Nord se souvient, a bold project that’s already certified triple platinum. Within the Djuna family—between Dadju and Gims—there’s hardly any wall space left for more gold and diamond plaques. The latest addition to this streak of hits: the track Contact.

Gims is in Contact!

The production is helmed by Maximum Beats, a beatmaker practically inseparable from Gims, having already worked on Piano, Diana & Ninao, Carré OK, and Spider. His sound has become an unmistakable trademark for the man behind the signature dark shades.

The track blends pop energy with reggaeton-inspired rhythms—a sonic playground Gims commands effortlessly. It’s a certified banger, tailor-made for summer playlists.

This time, Gims goes full egotrip with a sharp sense of humor and razor-sharp lines:

Contact, yeah, I’ve got so many contacts, zero points on the mis-per
I’m takin’ off from Le Bourget, they’re waitin’ at CDG
Black shades, pretty BG, talkin’ behind is a sin
Been here since JCVD, since DVD players
I pretend to look at her, but girls feel like trouble now
One drink too many, it’s a disaster, I need a woman like Lagertha

The music video, visually striking, leans into a military aesthetic—tanks, tension, and all. It’s directed by Nono, known for past collaborations with Sensey on Parcours, with Lyna Mahyem and Numidia Lezoul on Jamais Yensak, and with GLK on Mehlich.
