DAU and Jewel Usain are totally Amazed!

DAU made a strong impression in the second edition of Nouvelle École. The artist is back with an ultra-conceptual project titled Amazing, featuring a powerful collaboration with Jewel Usain on Amazed. The first single, 100 Fois, stands out with a striking visual identity, addressing the superficiality of modern romantic relationships. Today, DAU continues promoting his project with the release of the Amazed music video, alongside Jewel Usain, a fervent advocate of limitless creativity.

Set to a jazzy production reminiscent of Lone Catalyst, the two rappers embark on an immersive time-travel journey, revisiting the aesthetics of 1950s advertising. As both actors and spectators of their own visual world, they deliver a captivating performance.

The instrumental production is crafted by Pandrezz and Epektase. Pandrezz, renowned for his numerous collaborations with Yamé, represents the evolution of “urban music” with a diverse and rich catalog. His works include Bécane, Call of Valhalla, and Ayo Mba. Epektase, on the other hand, co-produced Bécane with Pandrezz and has also worked with Népal on the track Crossfader. The production is built around a refined jazz sample, reminiscent of Lone Catalyst on Renaissance.

Rap music today is increasingly incorporating jazz and gospel samples, a trend masterfully explored by artists like Kendrick Lamar. This production fits seamlessly into the world of DAU and Jewel Usain, who skillfully navigate between old school and new school.

Sharp Lyrics for an Impactful Rap

“When I step into the city, they scatter, I’m the curfew
The light intensifies, I leave a mark deep in your eyes
Bang, bang, I age like fine wine”

And also:

“We love the butter, the money, the milkmaid, the mill
The cash cow that lifts the mood
I’m the farmer, I’ll see it through, I don’t care about being last”

Just like with his first video, DAU once again turned to Exit Void, who delivers a true visual masterpiece. Paying homage to the aesthetics of the 1950s-60s, the video reinterprets iconic black-and-white advertisements featuring smiling, perfectly coiffed women, seamlessly transitioning into the world of cabaret and the advent of Technicolor. This clip is a bold, nostalgic yet innovative visual journey, showcasing the artistic vision of both rappers.
