DA Uzi made waves in 2022 with the release of his album The Path of the Braves. This ambitious project features prestigious collaborations with Gazo, Lacrim, Ninho, KanyA Samet, Naps, Oldpee, and Sofiane Pamart. Hailing from Sevran, DA Uzi is often regarded as “the architect” of French rap, a versatile artist capable of delivering eclectic works. Combining sharp lyrical skills with more accessible tracks, he continues to reinvent himself.
Over the past three years, DA Uzi has released numerous singles and enriched his famous freestyle series WeLaRue. This collection highlights the duality of his life: between the streets of Sevran and his rise as a rapper in Paris. The visuals of WeLaRue 8, a two-part track, perfectly capture this contrast between his roots and his present.
With West Coast, DA Uzi marks a powerful comeback. The music video, filmed in Dubai, accompanies a sharp track where the artist returns to the incisive style of his early days. The flow is cutting-edge, and the lyrics are meticulously crafted: authentic DA Uzi, both in substance and style.
DA Uzi heads to Dubai with West Coast
The instrumental production of this track is credited to Flem, a key figure in the drill music scene, who has played a significant role in its growth in Paris. A close collaborator of the 667 collective, Flem was even honored by Django, who dedicated his project S/O Le Flem to him. However, the composition of West Coast diverges from traditional drill music. Featuring a classical piano sample, it provides DA Uzi with the perfect canvas to showcase his talent and embrace the “noble art” of French rap.
In this track, the artist shares stories that blend melancholy, egotrip, and raw realism. Notable punchlines reflect his sincerity:
“My heart is broken, I’ve lost while winning, they’re killing each other on the slope, they’ve skied, shooting for revenge / Courage is struggling, tracker, I say you’re parked, I yell at you, I’m enraged.”
And:
“I won’t listen to all the rumors, I’ll change our damn lives, I promised them / And for the money, I sweat blood, and you understand me, that’s why we stand united.”
The music video, shot in the desert and urban landscapes of Dubai, was directed by Yanis Lebsir. This artistic director, operating between Paris and Dubai, has made a name for himself through collaborations in the luxury brand advertising industry.
