Interview : Naasty, the new Wave !

Where does your name, Naasty, come from?
Naasty has been with me since my teenage years… It’s the result of many things. It’s an attitude, a mindset, but mostly because I used to rap quite fiercely yet subtly at the same time.

How did you get into a music career?
I’m pursuing a music career thanks to my close ones who keep pushing me, insisting that my talent can’t just sit dormant.

How would you define your style?
Honestly, I don’t really have a defined style. Lol, maybe you could call it worldwide music since I want my music to resonate with all kinds of people, but there will always be some Afro influences not far off.

Two years ago, you took a break from music. What were the reasons?
Honestly, that break was really about taking a step back to leap forward.

Which artist would you dream of performing with?
Lauryn Hill, Mary J… that would be a dream. But there are so many others I’d love to collaborate with, for sure.

Where does the cultural fusion in your music come from?
Simply from my background. I was born into folklore and ndombolo, raised with gospel, folklore, and ndombolo, and grew up with coupé-décalé, ragga, rap, RnB, reggaeton. You see, that’s already a lot, right? Lol, an incredible richness of sounds.

You just released the single “Oya.” What are your plans after this release?
My short-term goal is to be everywhere: radio, TV, etc. And in the long term, it’s to stay there. I plan to keep dropping singles.

What bothers you in the music industry?
Hypocrisy!! To put it simply.

Do you have any anecdotes to share about this industry?
Honestly, nothing you haven’t already heard. Everyone goes through more or less the same experiences at different scales and timings.

What venue do you dream of performing in?
When it comes to dreams, I’d say stadiums. The one in my country, the one in France, and others… but stadiums!

Have you done a lot of live performances?
No, and I can’t wait to start. Sharing energy with the crowd, that’s my real thrill.

What can we wish for you?
What I need is concentration, perseverance, and success!
