Pelikan: A Tribute to Swedish Tradition!

A few hundred meters from the border between Skanstull and Hammarby lies the restaurant Pelikan. Amidst pizzerias, kebab shops, and bakeries (the equivalent of cafés in France), Pelikan proudly showcases Swedish tradition. On the menu, you’ll find the classic staples of Swedish cuisine such as Toast Skagen, cod in various forms, meatballs, and an abundance of fish.

Pelikan: A Tribute to Swedish Tradition!

Far from being overly “fancy”, the restaurant’s large open space is styled like a traditional brasserie. Most restaurants were designed this way back in the 1970s. It’s a large, bustling hall with rows of tables everywhere. The classic colors, like the food, leave little room for creativity. The patrons of Pelikan come here to savor traditional Swedish cuisine, not to indulge in Asian fusion. This is the quintessential tourist restaurant that an expat might choose to introduce their parents to authentic Swedish and traditional cuisine.

The staff, dressed in uniforms, are both humorous and friendly. However, the restaurant is organized like a large chain, with very well-defined roles. Everything is in place to immerse you in the ambiance of a 1970s Swedish restaurant.

As for the food, the starters are somewhat inconsistent. The Toast Skagen is pleasant, the “sill” (for those who enjoy mustard-baked herring) is delicious, but the asparagus soup is too creamy. The main dishes are worth their price. Don’t expect an explosion of creativity, but the meatballs and especially the gravlax salmon are well-prepared.

Book here : Pelikan is a luxury canteen where you can rediscover the spirit of old Swedish dining.
