Chaax launches the “DAM” freestyle series!

Chaax, an artist signed to the prestigious 92i label of Booba, is making his mark among the heirs of French rap. Staying true to the legacy of one of the greatest French rappers of all time, Chaax continues to push the boundaries of his craft. In 2024, he releases a new project, “Kaïzen”, featuring Gato and Timal. Gato, a close friend of B2O, is a core member of the label, even contributing to “Ultra” — what’s supposed to be Booba‘s final album. But that’s not all: Chaax is also launching a new series of freestyles called DAM, short for Dakar, a raw burst of energy blending New York influences with references to both France and Dakar. This explosive debut marks the beginning of a promising freestyle series.

Chaax launches the “DAM” freestyle series!

The production of this first freestyle is handled by two talented producers: J1GTB and Ymaddz. The first, a Swiss beatmaker, and the second, a New Yorker, each bring their unique touch. It’s likely under the influence of Ymaddz that Chaax chose to drop his verses over this New York-inspired beat. Ymaddz has previously worked with artists such as Baby Gee on tracks like “Hazard Lights” and “Swerve like Malik”, and with PFA Leek on “12345678”. The track itself is both dark and powerful, with an intense rhythm and striking piano chords that make for a memorable sound.

Chaax delivers impressive egotrips, letting loose with punchlines in an electrifying atmosphere. “Two hands on my b.*, looks like she climbed Mount Everest”, followed by his new catchphrase: “Chaax from 92i, I’m like Muhammad Ali”. The influence of American rap is clear, but Chaax‘s style remains deeply rooted in his French background, and the result is nothing short of impressive.

The music video, filmed like a cypher with a fixed camera in a simple room where a few “new friends” fill the frame, was directed by Fullblvck. A director closely tied to the 92i movement, Fullblvck perfectly captures the raw and authentic energy of this freestyle. He has previously worked with Booba on “BB”, with Sicario on the excellent “Silence Partagé”, and with Saamour Skuu on “NFL”.
