Gazo puts his love on “Probation”!

The era of DRILL FR seems far behind. A leading figure in the French Drill scene, the rapper made his mark with DRILL FR, a project with a fitting name. Following the release of his second project, KMF, which also benefited from the rising popularity of Drill, the artist joined the exclusive ranks of the three most-streamed rappers on Spotify in France, alongside Ninho and Jul. Between these two projects, Gazo was interviewed by Booska Colombien, where he revealed that his next album would include at least one “non-drill track”. Little did he know how true that statement would become. Later, alongside Tiakola, Gazo even ventured into more rhythmic tracks within their joint project.

The track Probation, from Apocalypse, the rapper’s upcoming project, stands out in several ways. In this single, Gazo explores a completely different style, and the track is dedicated to a woman. From IAM and their Elle donne son corps avant son nom to Rohff and Starfuckeuse, and even Michto by Seth Gueko, rappers have often portrayed women as manipulative figures drawn to money and power. Gazo takes a bold counter-stance to this narrative. This mini short film, directed by Arthur Keasy, appears to be the first episode in a series introducing Gazo‘s new album.

The instrumental production of this track is crafted by SHK. This beatmaker had already collaborated with Gazo on the track Molly as well as on Cartier featuring Tiakola. Originally from Épinay-sur-Seine, he is highly regarded in the rap world and has also worked with Niska, Freeze Corleone, and Gambi. This track is built on a beautiful melody, and it’s rare to see Gazo in this style.

In this song, the artist pays tribute to a woman who loves him for who he is, not for his money: “I take her to Fendi, she wants H&M, she’s different, I’m all in Louis, she prefers me in TN”. The chorus speaks volumes in this regard.

The visual, directed by Arthur Keasy, is a true short film. The video opens in a fast-food kitchen, likely representing Gazo’s life before his career took off. It depicts a love story that accompanies Gazo’s rise, featuring a woman who supports him no matter what. At the end, we see “to be continued”, suggesting that this seemingly perfect romance might face challenges ahead. Arthur Keasy recently worked on the visuals for Movie by L2B and Un peu by Oboy. He has also collaborated with DJ Kore, Leslie, and Franglish on Dans les veines, and with Koba LaD on Un peu d’amour.
