On July 19th, Maes will unveil his new album “La vie continue” (Life Continues), featuring prominent artists such as Ninho, PLK, and Werenoi. Following the success of “Distant”, Ninho and Maes join forces once again. The Sevran rapper, who has been living abroad for several years, introduces “Magie” (Magic), the second single from this promising album.
Maes undergoes a radical style transformation
The soundtrack of “Magie” is composed by Some-1ne, a producer who has previously worked with Aya Nakamura on tracks such as “40 %”, “Bobo”, “La Machine”, and “Hot”.
The track, with its dark and profound tone, marks a turning point in Maes’s career. Initially known for his subtle use of autotune and slow tempos in the album “Pure”, he later incorporated trap rhythms in “Les derniers salopards” (The Last Bastards) and explored Latin sounds in “Omerta”. With “Magie”, he reconnects with the roots of rap while innovating in both content and form.
Maes presents “Magie”, a preview of his new album
The lyrics of “Magie” are raw and direct, mirroring its evocative visuals. In a style reminiscent of Lacrim, Maes portrays a major trafficking operation:
"There are too many people to cool down, too many plans to place, Too many kilos to move, too much profit when I do the coke, Two options, you must choose: hold the leash or be the bitch."
The video, filmed by DAY N NIGHT PRODUCTIONS, captures this mood with a first-person perspective, depicting a vast international drug trafficking operation. This production company has also created lighter works, like the duet between Ninho and Ayra Starr.
